Tilley lamps - a quick favour

I hoping someone can do me a quick favour and tell me the height and diameter of a Tilley Stormlight?

I ask because I’m in Germany at the moment, with work, and have seen some excellent looking boxes, at a rather good price, but I’m not totally sure if they will be tall enough.

Thanks in advance.

The one I could lay my hands on was 34cm high and 16cm diameter - BUT overall the widest point was 19cm (where the pump sticks out).

I'd be inclined to allow a bit extra, and haven't a clue if they've always been the same size (this is an old brass-bodied one).

No, they were not all the same size, but...

I'd guess that you would have either a 1950's Guardsman or a later Stormlantern, and they are 36cm tall by 19cm across (including pump).

Older models varied and there was an extended version of the Guardsman with a built in pressurised preheater which was slightly taller, but I think, would still fit.

If what you have found are the petromax storage boxes they "should" fit just fine.

Just measured one of mine and I get 34cm tall and 16cm across the base, 19cm across by the pump, though one of mine goes to 20cm that way because the handle drops down directly opposite (I recall last time I took one to bits that you can turn that round if you take enough of it off, or you can drop it down over the pump instead). The one I measured is a Stormlight of unknown vintage, with a red fuel tank, and my other one with a silver fuel tank is exactly the same.

Thanks guys.

Between personal stock and the group, there's a mixture of Guardsman and Stormlantern (that'll be the red fuel tank). Seems I should go for 360 x 190, plus "a bit".

Never seen a pressurised preheater - sounds like something I should (not) start looking for...

I don't think the boxes I've seen are for Petromax; they're aluminium laminated plywood and looked about right size for four Tilleys.

I'm always on the look out for a (second hand) Petromax lamps when I'm over here - no luck so far.

never used a genuine tilly with the presurised preheater but got one cheap clas ohlson lantern with one, and its more trouble than its worth,

i have modified a tilly preheating clip to fit inside it and now use that instead

Preheaters are standard on Petromax, this was a mod carried out for either BR or the London Underground, they are relatively rare.
