I'm new here but I'm really interested to see this poll although we are not a Scout group - because we meet on a Sunday night which the Guiders and Scouters in our area think is really weird!

We originally chose the evening to be open to girls from the Muslim community as they go to Mosque school on weekdays but haven't had much success on that front. However we've got two leaders who hadn't been able to be involved for quite a while due to long working/commuting hours, and one young member who has left now but who was at after-school-club every weekday till 6.

I'd be interested to hear from other weekend groups why you chose that day.

One of our troops meets monthly on a Saturday 1-6. Just as much Scouting in 12 concentrated meetings as weekly meetings.

Cubs Tuesday
Beavers and Scouts Wednesday

Beavers and Scouts on the same night works well I think, 15 minute gap between the two to gather breath and swap over Leaders.

Is this Scouts? All groups? Or just younger?

I'm wondering about what to do if we decide to expand up/down from Brownies. We can't meet earlier (another group in the hall) and realistically can't start a full-length Guide meeting afterwards, so the alternatives are monthly on a Saturday (risk of completely forgetting absolutely everything between meetings), or an overlapping meeting (risk of massive chaos).

Similar to us but cubs Monday

Beavers and Scouts Friday with 15 minutes between, don't normally have overlap issues, only occasionally at things like christmas party etc!

We all meet on a Tuesday night in 1 big hall (school gym). Have half each.

Beavers 6-7
Cubs 6:30-8
Scouts 7:30-9

While the half hour cross over time can get a bit noisy, we generally try to work it so we're both doing games or both doing quiet stuff. And I try to get the Scouts out as much as possible anyway. It's worked fine for the 10 years I've been here and the benefits are that transitions through the sections are much easier as everyone knows everyone and you've also always got a spare pair of hands (I help with Beavers, cub leader helps me, etc).

My old Scout groups were on a Tuesday and Friday. About the only possible negative of Tuesdays is that Friday groups have Saturday morning to recover so can do night hikes easier and also have a lot of meetings at district activities or camps so less to plan. Although I like to think of this as a positive as I have lots of ideas and we can get more done.
